
Gigaom contributor Stacey Higginbotham said this is the first test of Adobe's custom-built hosting infrastructure.
While Photoshop Express is the first major hurdle for the host platform Adobe said it plans on offering “more premium services within the same Photoshop.com web environment” over the next year.
Adobe said it began building the host infrastructure one year ago and it “was entirely separate from Adobe's internal IT.” I'm sure many of you can guess this type of hosting service is does not come cheap, but Adobe won't discuss the costs incurred.
Higginbotham guessed that there will be streams of revenue for Adobe other than charging users for more storage. Adobe spokesman Geoff Baum said the company will earn on its investment through “upselling services, potential advertising, and OEM deals with other companies.”
