Monday night’s Grammy ceremonies got lower ratings than expected, and I like to think the ratings were lost during the red carpet segment. It seems the days of outrageous Grammy fashion are gone (or the volume’s been turned down, at the least). No one approached the brazen display of Imogen Heap’s froggy getup from 2007s show, heck, even Beyonce turned down the dial on her BeDazzler this year…a little bit.
The loss in ratings may affect future advertising revenues for the networks, but Grammy winners can still expect their sales to rise after the show. Todd Martens, author for The Envelope posted a well written blurb about the Grammy effect today.
Amy Winehouse and Kanye West were both big winners, with 5 and 4 awards, respectively. The usually self-aggrandizing West was surprisingly mum after his loss for album of the year to jazz great Herbie Hancock, leading me to believe his evening was bittersweet.
Last bit of gossipy sniping, I promise. Apparently Aretha Franklin is the only person or singer who can be called “queen.” Beyonce introduced her “ultimate icon” Tina Turner, after a list of other female legends, as “the queen.” Today Aretha released a statement saying she “dismissed the move as a cheap shot for controversy.”
Great post. I watched the grammys and thought they were pretty good this year.
