I consider myself a media-savvy, well-informed gal, and I really want to do my part to save the earth, AND I hate junk mail.
So how come I never heard of CatalogChoice.org until today? Well, I don’t know the answer to that but I’m glad I know now.
Catalog Choice is a free service that lets you opt out of those unsolicited paper catalogs that come in the mail. Besides cutting down on the amount of sorting and recycling, the service also helps save natural resources.
Like the DoNotCall, the national directory which stops telemarketers in their tracks, this service puts a modicrum of control back in the hands of the public. Monica Guzman, author of The Big Blog at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, noted 458,379 people have already signed up, eliminating 5,479, 221 catalogs.
What say we add to that number? The site is a little slow today, a segment from the Today Show created a sharp spike in traffic so first thing Friday morning I’m signing up.
