Nov30	US News and World Report Releases America's Best High Schools; A Ranking of USA's Top High Schools Tanya Payne November 30, 2007 Know More: Education News America's Best High Schools, best high schools, High school rankings, School Evaluation Services, Thomas Jefferson High School, Top high schools, US News and World Report US News and World Report has posted the results of their first ranking of America’s Best High Schools today, with issues available December 3^rd on newsstands. Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, VA secured top honors. US News, used methodology from School Evaluation Services, an educational research firm run by Standard & Poor’s. 18,500 schools from 40 states were judged on the following criteria: 1. Student performance on state tests, adjusted for poverty and other circumstances; 2. The performance of disadvantaged students (Blacks, Latinos and the poor); 3. The availability of college level coursework. Although better known, Newsweek ranks schools based only on the percentage of students taking college prep coursework, meaning Newsweek’s ranking only considers how well our schools are educating the elite. 23 schools in California ranked in the top 100.
