A strike by the United Auto Workers at Chrysler LLC, makers of the Dodge and Jeep brands, began and ended today. Union employees walked off the job at 11:00 EST, just after 5 pm it was announced the two sides had reached a tentative deal.

That an agreement was reached so early was probably better news for UAW workers than Cerberus Capital Management, the private equity group which bought the company from German firm Daimler (NYSE: DAI). Unlike GM (NYSE: GM), Chrysler is a privately held company, so there are no shareholders balking at lost profits to spurn the company to a swift resolution.

Also thought to work against the UAW, Cerberus had no prior dealings with labor unions. Some analysts predicted the strike may stretch longer than two days as the two sides sized each other up.

While important details of the deal are still not available, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said the deal is “consistent” with the GM agreement.
