Google Tops the List of 100 Best Companies to Work For

Google (GOOG), famous for its unique company culture, came in first place for the "100 Best Companies To Work For 2007" list from Fortune._40430211_google-staff-ap.jpg

"Googlers" as the company likes to call their employees, get free meals (at Google's 11 gourmet cafeterias), swimming spa, and free doctors onsite.  Many Silicon Valley companies provide shuttle-bus transportation and Google is no shirker offering Wi-Fi enabled coaches from five Bay Area locations. For those that choose to drive they offer car washes and oil changes and if you want to buy a hybrid car they will give you $5,000 towards that environmentally friendly purchase.

Just a few more perks: haircuts onsite, $2,000 reward for refering friends to work there, $500 for take out food if you just had a baby, gym workouts, subsidized exercise classes, massages, language lessons and a personal concierge to arrange dinner reservations.

Oh but wait! That's not all. Try doing your laundry for free with company provided washers and dryers and yes, even laundry soap. Child care, bring your dog to work on a temporary basis not to mention awards, compensation, incentives and a fun work environment.

No wonder they receive as many as 100,000 job applications per month!

Some of the others that made it to the Fortune Top 100 list:

#2 Genentech (DNA) who offers a six-week paid sabbatical for every six years of service. fortune.jpg

#3 Wegmans Food Markets who receives thousands of letters every year from those shoppers who are dying to have a Wegmans in their neighborhood.

#4 Container Store who pays employees 50% to 100% above industry average and offers family friendly shifts, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to allow for school dropoffs and pickups.

#5 Whole Foods Market (WFMI) who has a long salary cap limiting pay of top execs, currently at 19 times average full-time pay with the founder, CEO John Mackey reducing his salary to $1 and forgoing all future stock options.

*As a side note California is the home to the most companies on this year's list.
