Now you can rent or buy movies through Microsoft's (MSFT) Xbox 360 through the company's online Xbox Live Marketplace.
The program will become available Nov. 22 and will start out with over 1,000 hours of available content before the end of the year. Pricing details won't be available until later this month.
Movies rented through the program will be available for up to two weeks from downloading but once the user hits play the film will only be viewable for 24 hrs. Purchased shows will be viewable as long as they remain on the Xbox 360's hard drive.
Some of the major media companies that have signed on to support the program are Time Warner (TWX), Viacom Inc. (VIA-B) and their MTV networks as well as Ultimate Fighting Championship programming.
The move towards digital distribution of video programming is another step in the race to keep up with stiff competition this holiday season from rival Sony Corp. (SNE) and their Playstation 3, which will offer a similar service though not in time for its Nov. 17 on sale date.
