After successfully suing the maker of Blackberry devices for infringement of wireless e-mail patents, NTP is now going after Palm, Inc. (PALM), the maker of the Treo smart phone.
NTP claims in their lawsuit, filed in Richmond where they are based, that Palm's products, services, systems and processes have improperly used NTP's wireless e-mail technology.
The suit seeks monetary damages for past infringements and is also asking to bar Palm from continued use of the patents. Palm's shares fell $1.17 since news of the filing of the lawsuit.
NTP's successful lawsuit against Research in Motion Ltd. (RIMM) settled a four-year patent dispute ending in R.I.M. agreeing to pay $612.5 million even though they never conceded wrongdoing. They felt they had to settle because of customers delaying placing new orders because of the threat of a BlackBerry system court-ordered shutdown.
