
The world's largest chip maker, Intel Corp. (INTC) confirmed in December that they had an interest in building a chip-making factory there but are waiting for India to form its semiconductor policy before finalizing plans to begin mangufacturing.
Guidelines to develop a microchip industry are imminent, at least that is what India's government is telling Intel. The company has already spent more than $1 billion in Inda to strengthen its research and development and to invest in telecoms start-ups.
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), a rival chip-maker, announced last November that it planned to invest in SemIndia consortium to build a chip-making factory in India, according to this NYTimes.com article.
