Google (GOOG) is testing a new program where they will act as middleman between Google customers and newspapers.
The plan is to increase ad sales by offering a one-stop online shopping solution for placing ads in such papers as The New York Times (NYT), Philadelphia Inquirer, San Jose Mercury and seven other papers owned by Gannett (GCI), the publisher of USA Today.
Google will start out with a small group of advertisers, including Netflix (NFLX) eHealth (EHTH) and eBags. Google should open it to the general public early next year.
