Wal-Mart's chief toy officer (gotta love that title) notes that toys like $249 red Mustangs under Mattel's Powerwheels brand are selling fast and early on for the season, something he personally hasn't seen in five years.
This is lifting the spirits of many a retailer who previously worried that high gas prices and rising interest rates would make consumers wary about spending money on gifts. With falling gas prices, receding mortgage rates, and a healthy stock market consumers are feeling like it's time to go shopping and retailers couldn't be happier.
