Baidu is one of China's biggest and fastest-growing Internet companies and the deal with Viacom's MTV Networks will provide American television and entertainment programming within China.
MTV Networks produces MTV music video channels as well as Nickelodeon and such popular cartoon programs as SpongBob SquarePants. They recently formed a similar alliance with Google Inc. (GOOG) to distribute advertising-supported video clips over the Internet.
Viacom has stated that they are digitizing their entertainment content in order to make it available on the Interent and to mobile phones and other devices to people all over the world. This step is a way to tap into a new market with huge potential.
