Viacom Inc. (VIA) has requested YouTube, the video-sharing Web site, to remove Viacom videos as part of ongoing discussions on how the two companies can work together.
Thousands of Viacom clips are still available on YouTube as of today. A source, quoted in this NYTimes.com article, said Viacom, owner of the Comedy Central cable network, had sent a letter last Friday requesting that some of its shows -- including the popular ``The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,'' ``The Colbert Report'' and those from MTV Networks and BET -- be purged from the site.
Neither Viacom nor YouTube have commented on the matter.
The purchase of YouTube by Google Inc. (GOOG) had many analysts predicting that media companies would begin to seek compensation for pirated clips or to seek legal recourse.
