Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) is deploying "Flash Lite for Brew" technology, a version of the Web media technology known as "Flash" that will boost the look of graphics, animation and video delivered to its cell phones.
Verizon is hoping to entice their customers to buy that content, initially made available on four of their high-end phone models. The technology was developed by Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE) and Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM).
The handset's software will be upgraded with an automatic "over-the-air" download when a customer accesses Flash-enabled content. The new and enhanced content being offered will include new video games from Shockwave and other graphic-rich applications such as The Weather Channel and MovieGoer from Zingy.
