Toyota Recalls 30,000 Scions

Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) announced the recall of about 30,000 Scion TC sports coupes due to concerns that the side air bags might inadvertently deploy if the door is slammed hard.

About 20 percent of the 2005 and 2006 models are affected by the recall. The vehicle is only sold in the United States and was marketed to youth-oriented consumers.

Toyota explained that seat-mounted side air bags and side curtain air bags could deploy if the door on that side is slammed forcefully while the ignition is on or within 90 seconds of when the ignition is turned off.

No deaths or injuries have been reported and only 17 incidents of the defect have been reported. Recall notices will go out next month. You can call Toyota at (866) 707-2466.
