Time Warner Inc.'s (TWX) AOL announced it will lay off 1,300 employees by closing call centers in New Mexico and Arizona a part of a previously declared restructing plan.
AOL also plans on selling its call center in Odgen, Utah. 900 layoffs will come from the Albuquerque call center and 400 from Tucson. Each of the call centers have been in operation for 10 years.
The restructuring plan was announced in August with orignal forecasts of 5,000 employees, a quarter of its global force, facing layoffs within six months. The job cuts should free up $1 billion in savings. Despite cuts customers shouldn't notice any change in service.
