With Chrysler losing money , $1.5 billion in the last three months, for parent company DaimlerChrysler (DCX) the possibility exists that the Chrysler Group could be spun off or sold.

Executives at the German parent company are not ruling the option out. The possibility of such a sale being one more indication of the upheaval in today's American auto industry, as three Detroit companies are struggling with losses.

The eight-year merger, announced in 1998, shook the automobile industry and was the catalyst for other such pairings as Renault and Nissan Motors (NSANF.PK) and the now defunct General Motors Corporation (GM) and Fiat (FIA), as reported by this NYTimes.com article.
