
According to the NYTimes.com the settlement resolves two civil cases as well as an investigations by the United States attorney's office in Philadelphia. Medco's profits were reduced by two-thirds to $44.8 million due to provisions of the settlement.
The accusations consist of Medco accepting payments from drug makers if they favored their drugs. The government contends that the company submitted false claims for mail-order prescription drugs provided to millions of federal employees, retirees and their families.
Part of the agreement reached was that no findings of wrongdoing would be brought against the company. This settlement is the fourth largest this year with the largest being made with Tenet Healthcare Corp. (THC) to the tune of $900 million.
