The Atlanta Assembly Plant has been in existance for 59 years and has been closed as part of Ford's reorganization plan. The nation's second-largest automaker hope so boost profits.
The Taurus, in production for 21 years, which was the nation's best-selling car from 1992-1996, reached sales of more than 7 million.
The honor of the last Taurus to roll off the line was sold to Chick-fil-A restaurant chain founder Truett Cathy, who credited the success of his first restaurant in Hapeville to business from the plant's workers, as reported by MSNBC.com. He doesn't plan to drive it but instead will display it in his auto museum along with his other Ford vehicles, including a Model T.
Some workers, about 400, are finding work at a Ford plant in Louisville, Ky.
