Just like a couple of two-year olds Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Toys 'R' Us don't want to share their toys any more even though they were best friends yesterday. The two companies, who have been partners selling toys online since 2000 are now firece competitors battling for their share of consumers' holiday dollar.
The two broke ties following a ruling in March by a New Jersey superior court judge that found Amazon.com breached a deal to give Toys 'R' Us Inc. exclusive rights to supply certain toys as a third-party vendor on Amazon's site. Amazon is appealing that decision.
The war begins with both sides offering expanded toy product choices as well as new services in an effort to get consumers to 'choose up sides'.
