Wall Street buzz is that Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP) is in play to be acquired or merged with a number of different companies.
It may be a merger with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY-P) or be acquired by either Merck & Co. Inc. (MRK) or Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).
Speculation began when Schering agreed to pay $435 million to settle criminal and civil charges of fraudulent marketing and pricing practices. They, however, admitted no wrong doing.
In this BusinessWeek Online article Catherine Arnold of Credit Suisse Group (CSR), which has done the banking for both companies, says a merger with Bristol-Myers, 'has merit'. She further states that Schering is a buy on its fundamentals and a merger would be a bonus.
