The Utah Board of Tourism Development hopes to show Delta Air Lines Inc. (DALRQ.PK) the state is serious and committed to making a direct flight to Paris a success. They have agreed to spend $250,000 to promote the route in an attempt to lure more international travelers to Utah.
Add to the mix The Salt Lake City Department of Airports who has pledged to match the state funding and the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau who has agreed to throw $150,000 towards the proposed flight's promotion.
Attracting international visitors to the state is considered important due to the fact that they tend to stay longer and spend more per day than any other segment of the tourism market.
Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton says, "While Delta would need some incentives from the community to offset the risk of starting international service, Salt Lake is neck-and-neck with Denver as the largest hub in the West and a good candidate for international service."
