While hunting for leaks to the media of confidential company information, Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) investigators have sought out the private telephone records of board members.
The company has hired outside lawyers to review the matter but can not determine at this time if the probe complies in all respects with applicable law. HP has stated they will cooperate with California state probes examining investigation techniques.
In a Securities and Exchange Commision filing the company notified investors that its board will refuse to nominate one director, George A. Keyworth II, for re-election after determining he was a source of the leaks. Keyworth was asked to resign on May 18 but refused.
