Google Inc. (GOOG) is trying to convince marketers that they are more than just a text advertiser and have teamed up with an Omnicom Group Inc. (OMC) company, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, for one of the agency's largest clients.
The project for Saturn, a division of General Motors Corporation (GM), starts today and will bundle together several Google products and services. Goodby is known for its offbeat creative work and their test campaign includes such features as ads that use Google's Earth satellite mapping tool to allow Web site visitors to click on an ad that produces a view of the earth zooming in on their closest dealership.
Google is hoping to capitalize on its success with search engine marketing text ads and draw attention towards its more elaborate online advertising choices such as click-to-play video.
