
With Wi-Fi phones you can make calls for free or very low cost through Skype, the Internet telephone communications company recently acquired by eBay Inc. (EBAY).
The latest in phones is the Wi-Fi device that can work in any spot that has wireless Internet access. Of course, if you walk into an area without access you won't have any service at all.
Skype has a goal of providing a phone that combines Wi-Fi with regular cellular service similar to Hybrid cars-you can switch between the two as needed.
Prices range from $180 to $350 and can be used for online instant messaging as well, at least the high end Sony Corp. (SNE) Mylo phone can, as well as downloading music. The lower priced models are only for calls.
