
According to the WashingtonPost.com more than three years into a bull market without a major correction, investors suddenly became concerned about rising interest rates and the possibility of higher inflation or an economic slowdown.
Standard and Poor's 500-stock index lost 7.7 percent of its value, and the Dow Jones industrial average fell 8 percent, between May 10 and June 13 but riskier investments did even worse. 13.8 percent loss noted in the Russell 2000 small-company-stock index and the MSCI Emerging Markets fell nearly 25 percent.
