Before attempting a landing at Chicago's Midway International Airport, pilots considered diverting to another airport but they pressed ahead and were unable to stop the Boeing 737 after touching down.
According to this WashintonPost. com article the plane crashed through a fence and struck a car on a busy Chicago street and Joshua Woods, a passenger in the car, was killed.
The pilots' actions are one of the issues under investigation as well as the computers ability to calculate stopping distances and thrust reversers. Thrust reversers redirect engine thrust to help slow down an airplane. The NTSB said they found nothing wrong with the thrust reversers.
Cockpit recordings show the pilots were concerned about the weather conditions but were joking around despite the stress involved in landing an airplane under such conditions.
