After 15 years, NBC's "The Today Show" co-host Katie Couric has a new job. After leaving "The Today Show" at the end of May 2006, Couric will join the CBS "Evening News" in September, making her the first female solo anchor for a major primetime network news broadcast.Couric will also contribute to the popular CBS news show "60 Minutes" and help with CBS primetime news specials.
The CBS "Evening News" currently gets close to 8 million visitors a night, but that's less than the figures for its counterparts at NBC and ABC.
I think it's great that Couric plans to step into the primetime spotlight. The world certainly needs more women to fill such highly visible positions.
